Talking MY NEW VINTAGE STRAIGHT RAZOR

Today my new vintage J.A. Henckels Friodur straight razor arrived. I purchased it from Classic Shaving.com, from the vintage razor section. I haven't taken any pictures yet, but I had to tell everybody about it. It's a 6/8 hollow round point stainless blade, with ivory handle/scales. I had the razor sent out to Lynn Abrams for a hone, Thank you Lynn very much. I'm happy that I have this razor for a couple of reasons. 1. I've always wanted a Henckels razor since I watched Lynns DVD The World of Straight Razors. 2. I have a Henckels Pro S, 8 piece cutlery set. They are awesome knives! 3. It's my second shavable straight razor. I shaved with it tonight, and it was an awesome shave, smooth as silk. STRAIGHT RAZOR 13

Red face Another New Vintage Straight Razor Story

I bought a Wade & Butcher for $10 USD today, 11/1/09, at the flea market. No nicks in edge or cracks in scales as far as I can see with my 14x/10x Loupe I also bought for $5. There is rust on the edge and some corrosion. The blade is 13x74 cm with a 35 cm tang. On the blade is “THE ORIGINAL AND ONLY GENUINE BOW RAZOR [LINE1] MANUFACTURED SOLELY BY [LINE2] WADE & BUTCHER [LINE3]. Two weeks ago I bought from the same vendor $10 my first straight razor with an 18x63 cm blade and 33 cm tang. On the tang is “THE J DIXON CUTLERY CO [LINE1] WARRANTED [LINE2] GERMANY [LINE3]. Today I ordered a Norcross 4K/8K stone after watching Lynn’s DVD. I’ve shaved with the Dixon three times, each time with an improved edge but still a ways to go. I’m never going back to the plastic single edge Gillettes. Also I bought an Illinois Razor Strop Co, #827 strop in hardly used condition for $20 from another vendor at the same flea market. I have Bill Ellis’s restoration CD on order to upgrade these jewels. The same razor vendor (really a knife shop) has a beautiful Stainless Steel unblemished straight razor with the only identification being “DIAMOND” in a rectangle on the tang. A lighthouse scene is sculpted or molded on one side of the scales. Anybody have a clue whether this is “Vintage” or not? $120 is his price. I guess I should put this under Newbie because I just started this adventure a couple of weeks ago. I guess I better hunker down here, tho I remember reading once, during my guitar phase, a person asked how many guitars they should get and the answer was, “when the money runs out, stop buying.”
