    Default Celebrated Water Razor Hone!

    Hey all,

So last week I bought a nice vintage thuringian escher type stone from hi_bud_gl here. Well it arrived today, and I love it!! The stone is about 6" x 1 1/8". It's a nice yellow/green colour on the honing surface, and more of a blue/green on the label side! The label was half off, and I thought I would try to remove it, but the problem was the other half was FIRMY on the stone! So I decided to just leave it on. Also seeing that I have absolutely no intention of ever selling it, I lacquered over the label with nail polish. It completely water proofed it (I added a lot of layers), and I lapped it under a continuous stream of water without any further damage to the label.

I don't know if you can see in the second picture (on the lower left), but it looks like a seam in the rock where different colours meet. The last picture is of the end, where the joining of the two colours in the stone are apparent.

Anyways, just wanted to share my new acquisition with you all!

    Dave

If I am not badly mistaken Escher made the hones labeled Celebrated Water Razor Hones. At least that is what I was told by a long time Escher collector. I have a slurry stone with the same natural yellow/blue. Beautiful stone you have there.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks I love it. I just took a razor for a few laps on it. It's very comfortable to use, and it feels wonderful to hone on! Wonderfully smooth and silky, a different feel than honing on a coticule. (That doesn't mean I'll be giving those away anytime soon though!)

JUST shaved with the razor I touched up with the stone. WOW! Now I know why these stones are sought after. Very smooth shave.

Congrats on your purchase. There is a reason for the"hype". Basically it IS NOT hype-those hones DO produce wonderful shaving edges.

After buying several Escher's as well as other Thuringian hones, I was immediately amazed at what I was MISSING. Not to mention how much fun they are to use. I love that sensation of razors against those hones.
