Thanked: 1903Arguably the holy grail of straight razor shaving. A baby seal.
Now then. Let us skip the "hands down", "best ever", and "totally awesome" bits, despite their being popular elsewhere.
I got this Gebrüder Lutzenkirchen razor off a well known auction site for the equivalent of 27 cheeseburgers. I gave it a few rounds on my 4 and 8k Nortons, then finished it on my Coticule. It out shaves all my other razors, including a Bergischer Löwe, and a Rasurpur Le Grelot.
The razor is a 5/8ths full hollow grind with a fat ridge, much like the new bottom line Dovos. It sings a lot, but delivers the closest, smoothest shave I have yet experienced. The razor is NOS, and has a very nice satin finish. The scales are translucent red, and only took a few swipes of my top secret, highly toxic, east German polishing compound (the man who gave it to me in an unmarked box cautioned me to use it outside only, wear safety glasses and latex gloves, but it out performes MAAS by leaps and bounds) to polish them to a shine.
Apologies for the eBoy pictures, I shall replace them with ones that do the razor more justice shortly.
Ah, yes. It has a baby seal stamped on the tang, hence the subject. German steel - simply cannot be beat!

I heard that the first cut they make with them after the initial sharpening is a baby seal. Tis' the reason for the lovely colour of the scales as well.
Ok maybe not ). But they do look nice.

Thanked: 31I'm going to call that razor the Hakapik.
Stories will be told about the Hakapik. Stories as great as those told of the Chronik. Stories that drive men to great deads and even greater deaths. Stories that shake the very soul of mankind.

Congrats Robin. Always nice to get a gem from fleaBay.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 1903Gobbledygook. Unlike the egregious inventor of the atom splitting laser razor, I shall not give mine to anyone else, lest its myth be busted.
