    Leighton-
That is a very good week! Those are 3 beauties!
I love the Amboyna Burl on the Duck, But what's up with the liners?
I've got several pieces of Amboyna Burl and was going to start shaping some scales.
Is the material not strong enough for scales by itself?

Casey, I'm going to butt in here because I happen to know the answer to this. I talked to a certain fantastic custom razor maker about getting one made and when I asked about amboyna burl, he recommended I try something else because, while it is gorgeous, he said it is way too brittle for razor scales at the necessary thickness. So yeah, I would imagine the liner is there for strength.

Leighton...Wow, man. Good score! I agree about the burl--it's the best of three fantastic looking razors.

Thanks for answering Jim. I had no idea.

And my week ends with lawschool prom. Barrister's ball. And! I've got even more razors that should be arriving at anytime.

    Thanks Jim!

I'm turning a piece of the burl over in my hands now & it feels dense & hard enough. I would have wasted many hours shaping and finishing a wonderful piece of wood only to have it fail if not for you & Leighton.

Ok, here goes my order for titanium sheet - always wanted to try that stuff...

I am going slightly off topic here

    http://straightrazorpalace.com/galle...oyna-burl.html

That is just the first one I found that I had done, not calling anyone right or wrong but I have found very few absolutes in this craft of ours....
I have also shattered a piece of Amb. Burl when cutting it down for blanks....
So yes it is temperamental, just like any other Burl, Palm, or Spalted wood is....

Agreed. I have some uncured Amboyna and it is pretty soft at 1/8" I use brass liner and coat it up with CA and its hard as a rock!!
