    Default This week's first Package

Well, of the FOUR razors I picked up this week, the first has arrived.
It's a 15/16 (roughly...) half hollow Cornet from the Gebr. Weyersberg...
The scales are not in the best of shape, as you can see, and the etching is almost all gone, but the edge is solid and she is shave ready (I think...will find out tomorrow... ). I'm not sure what to do about the scales...they're original, but the "modifications" aren't the best...

But man, is it a BIG one!!!!

Congratulations on acquiring a very nice shaver, and great looking too! I have 2 Weyersburg Corneta's, but they are only 5/8 in width. They shave beautifully. The steel seems hard and it took a while to get the right edge on them. So far, I have not needed to rehone either of them, with lots of shaves. I have never before heard of one that was 15/16 inches, so they must be very uncommon in that size.

I'd replace the scales. You could use a light wood (e.g., maple, yellowheart, etc.) to emulate the cream-colored scales. Maybe have the logo laser etched into the new set too? One of the members can be consulted on that (sorry his username escapes me at the moment ). Of course, you've go to polish up the blade to go wih he new scales.

I think you'll like that razor. I'm a fan of the big blades, and have really been enjoying the 1/2 & 1/4 hollow blades lately.

Thanks guys. I tried her out yesterday and got a very nice shave...I'm still not used to the extra steel, but it was very smooth. The guy who had it may not have cared much about the scales, but the blade has been VERY well taken care of.

I'll get the blade cleaned up, of course (I'm thinking metal polish should do it...no sanding neessary on this one...) and see how she looks.
