Thanked: 74Greaves
I got this off ebay for $18. Just arrived in the mail. Its somewhere between 13/16" and 7/8" depending where you measure. The spine is about 1/4". As you can see it is almost a full wedge.
Here is the Ebay Picture:
Here are the real life shots:
Can't wait to get her cleaned up and in some new clothes.

Thanked: 317looks like a very nice project razor. I hope you'll post some pics along the way, and not just the finished product.
The before and afters are always great, but I'd love to see more of the progression as people work these razors back into shape.

That is a cool old razor. If the scales aren't cracked I would leave them and just clean the blade up as best I could. I like the old scales if they are usable.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 156I love Greaves razors. They are on my "keep" list. And my "keep list" is very short.

Thanked: 174Totally agree and well done.
I go on about old razors that pre date the 1900 mass production razors.
That is one of the breed and with a bit of luck should turn out to be a wonderful razor. You have got a bargain that is worth spending a little time and money on.

Newbie question here: Do you really think those scales are salvageable? If you look at the spacer end, they look really badly chewed up to me.
That being said, I think the style of the scales really compliments the blade nicely. Maybe compromise by carefully prying that badge out of the scales, and then make some new scales as close to what those would have looked like when new as you can, and set that badge in the new scales.

I suspect those are not the original scales and that they really won't do. The edge on my Greaves (which is remarkably similar to this one) is a little longer than most blades and will need a slightly longer set of scales to match.

Thanked: 174Is that the same razor that appears on page 4 of the wedge razor club?

Thanked: 317That would certainly explain the notching on the lead spacer. Somebody put the blade in a set of scales they had, but they were a tad short so they notched out the spacer, badly, I might add.

Thanked: 74I believe horn scales shrink over time as well. They may have been the right size at some point, but no longer.
The blade is already out of the scales. I've been itching to use some striped maple for scales.......
