Was that the one on ebay? I was in the running, but it went out of my league. She's a nice blade!
(My largest is a tie between an 8/8 W&B wedge and my 8/8 Savage & Sons wedge; I crave something bigger - I want a 9/8 and a 10/8!)
Edit - By the way, I just went back to look at the auction photos, and you did a really nice job cleaning her up. I bid low cause she didn't look like she was in great shape.
I have a solid 9/8 full hollow ground rodgers out for scales. that is beuatiful, I was watching it too if same one. congrats!!!

There's space enough to reflect the full camera body on that nice blade!
..I was in the running too, holli4, and the same for me.
Can't top that beauty! I do have a Friedmann and Lauterjung "Tiger", but it is 15/16 and hollow ground. Yours is ancient and super well preserved. Very nice addition to your collection!
That's a very nice score you made there! Cleaned up really nice. Please give a post after your first shave with it.
I have a few 8/8s but I believe this one is just a little bigger. Brought it to the barber once (I always bring my own straight) and boy did his eyes go wide and his chin hit his chest, as do most people. I believe it is due to the reflection from the hollow grind on such a big blade. He really enjoyed using it.
Ah, "the spatula" rears her gigantic, beautiful head.
10/8 below is my largest razor. Do I have a 9/8? Check. 8/8? Check. Etc. lol
Sham, that looks awesome!
Lovely razor Sham. Here is a big un .
Edit; I just shaved with it this morning. Second time since I've had it. I didn't have to hone it as it came from a forum member lightly used and was shave ready. Sixty laps on the SRD webbed fabric followed by another 60 on the premium leather I got a 2 pass bbs as slick as I've ever gotten from any I've ever shaved with. That Joe Chandler fellow knows how to make a razor.
Man I love these. I was just thinking of posting this same exact thread last night...
On an aside, what's the biggest USABLE straight you've ever heard of? Anything bigger than 10/8? (By usable, I mean NOT that 2 foot or whatever barber's sign that someone posted a while back...)
Oh, and my only contender, a 15/16 Cornetta, currently in restoration.

My largest is a 9/8+ Belgian full hollow. The other razor in the pic is a 5/8 Lakeside Cutlery.

Wacker 8/8 "Magnum"
Man, i feel inadequate! I've got the 7/8 Friodur. I feel like getting Robert Williams to make my order 15/8. Unusable, but impressive!
Here is my tiny 8/8 Wostenholm

So far, just a few 7/8"+ (about 1" at the widest point, but mostly 7/8") W&B celebrated hollow grounds. Not the for barber's use ones. They're roughly half hollows.
I can't wait to try out some bigger blades, as these guys are my favorite blades so far, but I don't have the cash to step up to an 8/8+ at the moment.
I am tempted to ask a follow-up question - how often do you shave with those monsters, and what is the largest "frequent shaver" in your stable? ;)
In my case, it would be a 7/8 Wacker Jungmeister and a 13/16 Hargreaves Smith. That 8/8 Wosty is a bit too extreme blade for daily use for me.
The Monster as restored by Max. 8/8 Wedge the heaviest razor I have ever held.
Here's me and my 8/8 Savage.

I'm going to put mine on ebay. Here just one shot.
Notes: it is a bit difficult to close.. Overall very good conditions for its age.
Photoshopped? :nono: ........... :roflmao
I'm loving these big blades, thanks for sharing the pictures of such amazing razors! Big razors have fascinated me from day one, they have a quality all their own. :medvl:
I favor wider blades, but the largest one that I use constantly now is my Busch Worldmaster in 7/8s, rescaled in olivewood with a thick nickel spacer. Just an amazing shaver, smooth as a wedge but LOUD. It even edged out the vintage 6/8ths Le Grelot I got back in January as my new favorite:

I shave with my 9/8 at least one or two times a week.
8910 W Greaves Sons Fencing Foils 9/8 C1835
I shave with my 8/8 Chandler damascus at least once or twice a week.
I've got to get pics of that one.....
I don't shave with them at all lately
I'm to busy test shaving other razors
my favorites are, in order
7/8 Frederick Reynolds hollow worked back spike custom horn scales
17/16 W&B FBU wedge with original scales
8/8 Friodur (movin up the rotation)
6/8 Frederick Reynolds faux framback
i love the softer Sheffield steel but lately I'm shaving with German stuff, and fresh of the hone to boot
no buttery feel there !!!!!
WOW nice battelaxes... you know, this thread should be in the "Inch-High" razor club... or some other catchy name.
One of my John Barbers - only 13/16 wide but 26/8 of cutting edge :p :D
Here is my big boy (A "For Barber's Use" 8/8 John Elliot chopper dressed for dinner in custom resin scales with a monster mosaic pin):

I shave with it less these days but I use it about every other month.
