Thanked: 171Nakayama, kiita with nashiji
I had said a while back I would show some pics of my nakayama, so here they are. It's roughly 6"x1.5" at the narrow end and 6"x2" at the wider end. It's a dark kiita with nashiji. The nashiji appears to be asagi. It has pretty fast cutting speed and does a great final polish. Evidently it came to O_S with some chips that he had to lap the stamps off to get out. Doesn't matter to me at all! And I love the size... I love this size stone for finishing as I like to hold finishers in my hand.
I want to say that the one thing that is underrated about nakayamas, IMO, is the smell! This thing smells amazing. I have to get a good sniff in every time I use it. I'd probably buy the rock just for the smell even if I couldn't use it for anything else, lol. I wish they made a nakayama shave soap
Anyway, here are the shots:
Top dry:
Top half wet:
Top wet:
Top damp:

Bottom:
Here's a pic from the original ad from O_S before he lapped it:
Thanks for looking

well, i'm sure soap with genuine nakayama is possible. should be cheaper than most essential oils based soaps, unless you have to use way too much nakayama in it.
on the plus side your razor will never be dull - it'll self hone on the lather as you shave!!!

Verryy nice. Ideal shape & size too.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 171Yeah, that was the hone itself (lapped side). You can see the spots of nashiji pretty well and they do appear to be a light blue under magnification, so I think your guess at asagi nashiji was right.
I've not raised a slurry on the stone yet since it cuts pretty fast already, but I should be able to work one up with a DMT and take some shots. That will be interesting.. I've never looked at a slurry under the scope yet. If it looks interesting enough, I'll take some shots of a coticule and bbw with slurry too for comparison.
