Check out what I got at the local antique mall for $24.
Its about 2' long 18" wide and about 5 inches deep.

Just a bit of a pity that the inside will end up as dust if you turn it on the lathe.
Isn't there another technique where you can chisel the inside out in one piece? Think I've heard something like that. Japanese maybe?

Well, I do suppose it would be a very nice bowl....but since you have a lathe, I'd suggest you make up some dreamy brush handles and get some Golden Nib knots in there...
and make up some scales out of the scraps...
and send a nice hunk to me....
