Well done, congratulations. I don't remember seeing it or you would not have won!

A few days ago this one went on German ebay for a lot more:

Excellent score and well worth the cost. Congrats!! Post some follow ups after you run a few razors over it. I'm interested in reading about your first impressions.

I guess I shouldn't feel bad. I only bid $54. I had just lowered it from $75 after I bought a couple of other shave-related items. (and I could have had it for $63? what was I thinking!)

I was wondering when that would show up here.

    Good luck with it.

Yummie! Looking at photo number five I agree it does seem to be of a nice colour too. Was that still a tiny bit of end label in picture number four?

Yes, it is. Good eye - it's a slightly redder color than the top label, and I would have to guess that the top label has suffered some fading and may have original been redder as well. Unfortunately I do not know what was originally written on the end label

Hmm. About fifteen razors have now suffered at my hands on this particular Escher, and I have compared it to finishes off my only coticule and off a 12k naniwa. What follows are the results of my comprehensive and thorough testing:

I don't like my Coticule. Maybe it's just me. I mean, I like the hone, but I can't seem to get a great finish from it. So Escher wins.

The Naniwa 12k is nice. I am coming to the conclusion that I can put a slightly sharper edge on my razors using the escher than I can using the Naniwa.

JoeD - out of my three "finishing" hones, I prematurely (for the purposes of this thread, obviously) declare this Escher the winner The chromium oxide on leather and/or linen is still an excellent follow up though for me. Very nice

[Edit: the edges I have managed off this Escher do not compare in sharpness to the Shapton 16k edge or the Shapton 30k edge that Glen and I played with on a Hess at the Asheville meet last summer. Take it for what it's worth]

Congratulations on your good fortune! Like you, I am now leaning away from my coticule for MOST razors, in preference to my new Escher. I get a better edge off the Escher, except in the case of 2 razors that I had to take back to the coticule, before they would give a good shave. I don't know why, but they definitely preferred the coticule. I was in the bidding for your new Escher, but dropped out early. Glad I did, and that you got it!
