Thanked: 0New to the forum,2 razors & a strop
This is my first post,I have only been here looking for a couple of days, but have enjoyed the site.I have a couple of razors that i recently got from my father-in-law.I wondered if someone could tell me something about them. They belonged to my wife's Great Grandfather,They were found in an old wooden box,in a dairy barn that was to be torn down.they had a lot of rust on them. They are very old,and not in the best of shape, buy they do have a lot of sentimental value to my wife.
The first is a Pipe Razor.I can't make out,all that is stamped on the blade, but it's made by,George Wostenholm & Son.After that it has Manufactures of the original.....,that's all I can make out.The one with the black handle has, A.Vittur Co Ltd.,New Orleans,La.,Made in Germany. It has the original box with it.The strap is in pretty good shape.I hope the pic.,will show what is stamped on it.
My wife and I would like to know, about how old,all this is,and maybe a value, even though she will not part with any of it.
I am sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.

The first is a Woosty Pipe a good shaver.
The second is an ERN razor. I have a 6/8 with the same stamp. Darn good shaver.
As for the strop. As long as it is even with no warping and the leather is in tact then all you should need to bring it back is some neets foot oil.
Welcome and good finds.
Those razors will clean up easy. It doesn't look like there is rust on the blade so some MAAS should bring most of it back.
Age late 1800's early 1900s. 1870 - 1910? There are books on the subject and I am sure that I will be corrected.
Value, well they are priceless because they belong to your family.Last edited by singlewedge; 08-28-2009 at 03:02 PM.

Thanked: 0Thanks singlewedge, for the welcome.Good to know, they are that old and still in that good of shape. They had a little rust, but I was able to clean most of that off,and leave the patina.I do agree, they are PRICELESS.
Thanks,God bless,Keith
