Hey Dylan, it is a lovely stone and receiving it as a gift from a young lady makes it that much more meaningful. I am curious as to how it will perform for you. OS says it is 'slow cutting'. Interested to hear how that translates once you put the steel to it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have decided not to lap her. My understanding is that all hones from O_S are tested before being listed/sold, so there should be no need to lap. Should that change (it shouldn't since she's very hard)... well I suppose I would lap her - otherwise she wouldn't be usable.
I'll let you know once I've had a chance to play with her. I've taken a Red Imp 133 for a whole mess of laps (70 IIRC), but I've not shaved with her yet. When I do get around to experimentation and shaving, I'll most likely post in the hones section, but I'll be sure to stick a link in here.

That is a BEAUTIFUL hone, congratulations on acquiring it. That is certainly a fantastic gift, I'm sure you are grateful.
I often frequent O_S's site just to look, and I remember thinking: "Damn! That's a nice looking Asagi!".
You better enjoy that hone, it certainly looks worth enjoying.

Here's a picture that I took of the hone. I've shaved with my Filly 14 and my Red Imp 133 off of her, and both have been amazing saves. I'm very happy with her indeed.

Dylan, so what is the verdict on the cutting speed ? In your opinion is it slow, medium or faster than you thought based on O_S's assessment ? Not that I don't trust O_S's opinion but just your experience once you kicked the tires and took it around the block.
One of these days when my ship comes in I may be buying one of these and inquiring minds and all of that.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I'm really not sure about the cutting speed, to be honest. The Red Imp was already ready off The People's Hone of Indeterminate Grit (aka the C12K), and the Filly had just come of a Charnley Forrest (so she would have shaved smoothly as well). Each razor got about 50 passes on the Asagi with just water.
