Puma purchase
So I went a little bit out of my comfort zone and bid large on this Puma, meaning I either bought it at a decent price ($79) or completely got my rear handed to me.
So what do you think? Be honest, but with kindness, please!
There's no more photos besides what I've attached, but from the look of it, at least the blade is in pretty decent shape, right? Good find, or does it go towards the price of my razor education?!

Thanked: 735Why don't you ask your wife's opinion on your latest Ebay splurge?
Aren't you in enough trouble already, young man?!
Other than that, looks pretty nice. I'm no Puma expert.

Looks to me like a good buy, but the pic isn't great, should be a good shaver though.

Well, I bought myself a little bit of a reprive by selling my Clauss USMC and a newer Henckels. You're right, that does not exactly get me out of the doghouse, but I think I can be on probation for a bit. Plus $79 for a nice Puma doesn't seem so bad, right? Anyway, I hope someone here can help me identify the model.

Ok, so I've done a little searching, and this looks a hell of a lot like a Puma Special Pour Barbare Tres Dure (or however it is spelled). So that would be a huge find, right?! Please tell me if you know, thanks!

I'm no Puma expert, but I was impressed enough by that razor that I put it on my watch list. if not to buy, just to see what it would bring. Very nice score, sir!!
Based on the unique tip shape (for a Puma) and the tang grip, I think it's a big Model 1938 with the gold wash worn off the blade.
See this post in the "Cathouse" Razor Club, which shows a razor on the far right that looks very much what you have, it's a 1938. Whether it's a 1938 or a Barber model, I think you got a good price. I rarely see a decent Puma with a tang grip in that size go for less than $150. And I look for them a lot.

Tim, thanks for the good info. Mine does look like the razor you found, except for the gold wash. If you search "Puma Pour Barbe Tres Dure," you'll also find a lot of Puma razors that have a tang grip, so that's why I thought mine might be that type too. Anyway, I'm feeling a little bit better about the price, because like I mentioned, I'm not usually bidding this big on razors especially when I don't know exactly what I'm buying!

I watch a lot of pumas go on ebay (I want one is why) and that is a good price for what looks like a good price. IMHO it looks like you got a good deal. I hope you enjoy that razor.

Sbrouwers, my friend, check out this auction -- going on right now and ending tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon:

This is the same dang razor I just bought, but it's from a different seller. Same tang grip, looks like the same blade size, and also in good to excellent condition.
Anyway, if you liked the one I bought, this looks like another one.
