2 more and a box to put 'em in
Found an cigar box that will fit 25 razors. Even the 7/8 Bausch & Lomb I just picked up will fit, but it is just a smidgen too long, like 1/16".
The one on the left is the Bausch & Lomb, the other is a Waterville Unlimited. I have to admit I didn't know anything about either.
The Bausch has a different grind. What do you call this type of grind? How does one hone it? Hone one side only? Looking down the blade the left side is flat the other has a hollow. It is flat, I checked it with a straight edge.
I have read other members comments and know that the Waterville is a great shaver. What about this Bausch?

That Bausch is a sectioning knife, used (before the advent of sectioning machines) to prepare thin slices of a frozen or waxed specimen for microscopy.
So it isn't a shaving implement.... but that hasn't stopped some guys around here from using them! I think maybe JimmyHAD knows about how to do it.... I'm sure he'll drop in soon!

That B&L is a microtome used for slicing tissue very thin to put on a slide under a microscope. They can be honed and shaved with but they are a lot of work and not ideal. Here is an old thread on the topic. Waterville made some darn good razors. All of them I've seen were small blades but they shave well.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The Bausch & Lomb is not a shaving razor. It's a microtome made for medical labs to slice thin tissue samples.A couple members did threads on honing and shaving with them so you can maybe do a search for microtome and locate them. The waterville is a nice razor with a unique tang design I've not seen before. They are known to be good shavers.
Edit:Jimmy and Ben and I were posting at the same time but said the same thing-great minds think alike.Last edited by aroliver59; 12-23-2009 at 11:14 PM.

Thanks for the info! The Bausch didn't look like the traditional razor but at $19 I just bought it on impulse. The blades look better than in the pics. Haven't had a chance to clean them up, black stains, no pits. Some Maas should do the trick.
I will try to hone the microtome. Like Jimmy said, thrill of victory...... Got to make some lemonade.

It looks like it's in nice shape, with the box and all...definitely worth the money, IMO. They're certainly interesting tools- and shaving challenges!
