    Default Acquisitions :)

Howdy folks, I acquired 2 razors from ye olde ebay, mainly because they were hella cheap lol, anyhoo, I thought I'd let ya see em and see what you think, see if I cant get some help identifying anything about them.

    Sorry my camera sucks........

The top picture is the two of them together obviously. Now on to the individuals.

The second picture is 4/8 if I remember correctly, has some pitting and tarnishing which I plan on cleaning up, the scales appear to be some sort of laquered wood, but I may be wrong. The tang on one side says "42 Garantie Paris" and the other side of the tang has an elipse with B520 in it, but after a bit of hunting and squinting I think it should actually be HB520 but it's just a bit worn. With this one I plan on stripping the scales back to the wood, (I love the feel of them) and staining them and reattaching after the blades cleaned up.

The third image is a smaller blade, 3/8 and has plastic/celluloid scales. The blade is pretty clean, some tarnishing on one side and the scales seem in good shape.. I don't think this is gonna take a lot of cleaning, but not much more, so might jhust clean this up get it honed and enjoy it , incidentally, it's also the perfect size for my travel bag lol. One side of the tang has "42 Made in France" and the other has Garanti and the letters MP enclosed in a small diamond.

Now my questions are, can anyone identify anything about them from my description, and from the images can you see any issues with restoring them to a shave ready state?

    Thanks guys

Sorry, can't give much info about those...just curious if you are sending them to be honed. IMHO that should be priority 1 because if they hone without problems you'll know if they are worth trying to clean up. I see some honewear from the pics, but I can't see if there are any serious red flags from these pics.

Yeah I was thinking that, but I decided I doclile them aesthetically, besides some cleaning, so even if they dont hone ill still be keeping them for collectings sake.

Every now and the in French eBay there are straights with 'Garantie' or 'Garanti' markings. In English that means 'warranted'.
Is there any other marks on tangs? In France there were many brands, not only TI's.
Kabrand, Bol'dor, Le Jaguar,Rayg quickly comes to mind.

    Very cool!

I've heard French razors are nice, but you'll have to wait for one of the pros to stop by to comment further. Is it just the photo, or does the top razor have a bit of a frown?

Post an update once they get cleaned up.

    Hey.

Yeah it does have a bit of a frown, having never honed a razor from prectically blunt i need to ask is this an issue?

    Nice W&B!

And welcome to RAD. It's a happy, if bankrupt, little state.
