    Default newbie's razor #2 = Greaves & Sons

    Hey ya'll!

I just bought my second razor off of Craigslist. I reckon it needs alot of work, if it's even worth it. But, hey, it's my second razor of all time, and it's beautiful to me

From what I understand, there are quite a few of these floating around.. this particular model weighs in at about 4/8 and reads "B.J. Eyre & Co Late W. Greaves & Sons Sheffield" on the tang. Looks to be close to wedge (any guesses on the percentage, or tips on how to measure that? It also came in the original box. Can anyone tell whether the scales are original? I think they might be wood. Both blade and scales need some TLC so I thought maybe I'd give it a shot.

Percent wedge doesn't matter at all; everyone will call it something different, but it'll always shave the same. Scales look to be black horn, and I'd guess they are original.

Eyre took over Greaves, and I have heard they used Greaves blanks till they ran out of them. Greaves are some of my favorite shavers, and I'd bet this one will be top notch whet she's honed up.

Excellent find, esp on Craigslist (I'm yet to get a Clist razor).
