Thanked: 85Hibberd Masonic Wedge Chopper to restore
Greetings everyone,
Here's my latest eBay find, an R. Hibberd Sheffield blade. It has three touch marks over the name; a cross, a crown and a "Y". The blade is about an 8/8, and about 5/16" wide. It appears to have a Masonic etch on one side. I've always wanted a Masonic razor. Unfortunately, this one has some surface rust that needs to be removed. I don't know if I'll be able to remove the rust without wiping out the remains of the etch. I'll give it a shot...
I'll probably put some honey horn scales on this one, but maybe carbon fiber instead.
Oh, I picked it up for $5.99 + $3.00 shipping, which seems like a good deal to me.

Good luck cleaning the blade, hope you can retain some of that etch.

Sweet blade. I have two masonics that have lots of blackening on them, which is what you're going to find under that rust. Probably some pitting too. That pitting and that kind of blackening is going to be much deeper than the etch. You'll be able to draw out the etch my polishing with MAAS or something similar, but you won't likely get farther than that. Clearly that hasn't stopped me from loving my stained up masonics, and it shouldn't stop you either.
That is a sweet razor, and you should be proud to have her in your collection.
