Thanked: 0Sometimes Ebay is good.....
I hope this was a good buy!
GENTLEMAN'S SHAVING ASSESSORIES on eBay (end time 18-Mar-10 21:38:54 GMT)
The seven day set looks good and hopefully not that hard to restore.... but I'm interested to see if the other boxes have the correct razors that go with them....hope they arrive soon
Wondering if it's best to remove the scales to clean the blades.

That's a GREAT score.I've been trying to buy ONE Tuckmar for quite a while and you just scored a handful for a song.IMO that seller hurt himself greatly by NOT putting the words STRAIGHT RAZOR in his description.Every single person who did searches for straights did not see this listing because he listed it incorrectly.Your benefit.NICE!

Thanked: 1903That looks like a more than decent buy, albeit that the razors seem to need a bit more than a few swipes with Autosol. Do keep us updated (and, if in doubt, consider contacting a professional restorer).
Regards,
Robin

You really hit the jackpot! I didn't see it either. Those razors look to have been very well cared for, which is not the common rule. I wanna Tuckmar too..........eBay; sometimes you eat the bear, other times the bear eats you. Congratulations on having bear for dinner!

Thanked: 0Quick Update!
These arrived today and heres the story ten hours on....
The Griffon box did contain a Griffon, but was badly rusted around the pivot. It also has some pitting on the spine and back face. Seems to measure in at 11/16" The spacer was a lead type and was damaged.
The Gotta box did contain a 13/16" Gotta, Superfine, Hamburg Ring . Two outta two! Some minor blemishes that almost came out ok.
The third box contained a W&B!!! This is a 3/4" hollow ground one and in real nice condition, apart from the pins.
The seven day set I haven't touched yet and all have surface corrosion in varying degrees from hardly any to about 30% of the spine. The blade faces and gold wash all seem fine. This set has no days of the week on them so in effect are seven individual Tuckmars.
I decided to remove the scales on the W&B and the Griffon, as I've done this a lot without trouble....Unbelievebly i cracked both sets of celloloid scales
I cleaned the blades and replaced the scales on the W&B. Cleaned and honed the blade and am pretty pleased with it.
I need to get a set of scales for the griffon, but am in no rush, as I need to work on the spine corrosion.
The Gotta has cleaned up amazingly! and I have taken a break from honing to post this.....
I put some picture up soon
