    Default Flea Market Find

Ran across this at a Flea market today. How about the scales on this 6/8 Wade & Butcher 1/4 grind? Some honeware and needs a good cleaning but should restore nicely. Etching deep and clean....blade in good shape...will make a set of scales for this one......Welcome input on color , material, and shape which would suit this razor?

    Thanks !

    Ronnie

A nice old W&B and scales for a Duck! I'd like to see this after you restore it. It's hard to see from the pic but if there is pitting under that black spot 1/3 distance from the tow the etching might not survive if you get all of the pitting out. I have a bunch with pitting and it for sure doesn't effect the shave if it's not in the bevel.

That is a very interesting rescale choice, since those SE scales are notorious for cell rot. Those look ok to me, though. Cool that you scored the blade and the scales.

The etching is pretty nice on this one so, I will probably deal with some minor pitting. What do you think for scales? Black Horn.....Black Linen Micarta....?
I happen to have a DD satin edge blade that will work well with the scales.

I will post this when I finish. Have three other projects going and am busier, than hell at work! Certainly not complaining , just fortunate to be busy.

I'm partial to horn but haven't worked with any yet. The Micarta would be nice if you don't mind the dust. I would go with black over other colors. If you get the pitting out an ivory white looks good on W&Bs also.

Horn is pretty easy to work with, just has a nasty smell. Leaning toward the black horn..Thanks for the input!

Its a Wade & Duck! Or a Dubl Butcher, I cant make my mind up...!

Great find! That blade looks sweeeeet and hopefully will clean up nicely. Now you just need a DD blade to go in those scales...!

Actually, in looking thru some of my blades, I have a satin edge blade without scales. Worked out good for me.
Will call the W&B a Double Butcher! Strange finds out there!
    Thanks!

I'd say go with marbled micarta or horn, I have the same razor rescaled in grey bone, and Im very happy, a bit heavy but it balanced out the heavy steel, mines a bit larger then yours from the photos.(sounded really weird ehh sorry)

anyways, that would be my suggestion
