Thread: Fiskars

This old lady was in a bad shape as i got it from the local internet auction at the price of € 4. There was a heavy rust and deep pitting so i thought i wont even try to take all signs of age away. Scales were black horn but unfortunately broken.
I did some sanding and quick wipes with Farecla and Autosol. Used no electric tools with this razor. New scales are bone, and the wedge is horn. Made it of the original scales. Copper pins and brass washers.

This razor doesn't actually shock with its beautiness. It is rather a work horse. I thought it was worth saving as Fiskars is not a common brand for razors.

Fiskars is known for scissors and gardening tools here, but actually it is a village on the southern coast of Finland. It has a long history in steel, iron and various handicrafts. Sort of a local Solingen for us. On the year 1649 Dutch Peter Thorwöste got a privilege from Christina, Queen of Sweden to start producing various iron and steel goods there. Nowadays there are still various small handicraft, blacksmith and artisan boutiques and lot of tourists.

I do not know about the history of Fiskars razors, but as soon as we get rid of the snow i will take a quick ride to Fiskars with my motorcycle. It is about 150 km from where i live. There is a museum there and i think they might know something more about this razor.

Nice piece of Finnish history. There was some pdf on the internet with a miniscule picture of a fiskars razor. I've tried to find one myself without luck.

And the kuksa is nice too =).

Very cool razor! I have never seen or heard of a Fiskars straight razor before, although my Fiskars fish filet knife is absolutely excellent. I think you have a pretty rare blade there, congratulations. Have you had a chance to try it out yet?

Fiskars is a pretty cool little town.

This razor is still waiting to get honed but i'll get it done this weekend.

I was at the Fiskars knife show a few years ago. It was a wonderful place to visit. I really like the way they have kept the village true to it's traditions and restored most of the working shops. This year I was at the Helsinki Knife Show. I'm a member of the Scandinavian Knifemaker's Guild. I hope to go again next year.
