I have a 99, a collaborative work by Lee, Glen, and Max, and that one is a keeper, too.

Hess str8 razors have aan excellent reputation in the str8 razor shaving community. They were among the first str8 razor manufacturers to to make stainless steel razors and use the frozen temper method, which produces evenly tempered blades.

Congrats on your purchase. Take care of your new Hess and it will take care of you.

Indeed, the simplicity of those razors make them so beautiful. You don't see to many around either compared to the daily new listings of vintage Dubl Ducks.
    Congrats.

Thank you ALL for your comments and compliments. It is much appreciated! I am just starting on my journey with the world of straight razor shaving and so far it's been as I expected it. Thrilling from the word "go"! From the "rush" of the very first shave (...imagining the worst about those scary blades) to the regular caution exercised with each subsequent shave after the first. A exciting "journey", to put it mildly.

I have now been "bitten" by the collectors "bug" and am presently bidding on three more straight's. A J.A. Henckels "FRIODUR", a BISMARK "original" trademark, from Germany, AND one I haven't ever heard about that looks very nice called a "Facharbeit Solingen NOS".

I am working on my "7 day set". Hopefully I will stop there but I have serious doubts about that seeing all the "choices" and makers out there with beautiful works of art in steel.

Bidding? That Henckels is worth USD 100, tops. Bismarck is not a brand. And "Facharbeit" means skilled work, and isn't a brand,, either. Just for the record, there is a good reason why we advise beginners to stay away from eBay and other auction sites.

I found this on the J.A. Henckels FRIODUR I am bidding on - and it looks to me that it's more then the 100 USD you stated. Try twice that - according to this merchant. And "yes" I know there's a "mark-up" when folks are in business. But still........
Zwilling JA Henckels FRIODUR Straight Razor - Gifts

The BISMARCK was the trademarked name before DOVO bought that "trademark" from them and now DOVO owns it outright. I bought a BISMARCK from DOVO and nowhere on the razor OR BOX does it say "Dovo". It's a BISMARCK, sold by DOVO. At least MINE doesn't! I want the original trademarked razor - to show the difference between them, and to just have - which is why I am bidding on it.

That said, I will bow my head to the mentor as the other is something I knew nothing about but looks nice. It's got a etching on the blade that says "Feinster - Hohlschliff" with a NAVY anchor placed in between the two words. It looks nice to me......even if it's no piece of gold (per-se).

I do appreciate you looking out for me. I will consult you when I think I am looking at something that might be crap, next time. Thanks again for the input!

    addendum
If I win the bidding all tolled they will be under $100 USD for ALL of them combined. Nice - eh!?

Oh well........lost the bid war for the FRIODUR. I let it go after it went over $100. That's life! Win some - lose some!

I still have an excellent HESS #1 - right?!

........Speaking of "I have MY HESS.......finally".
I just received it in the mail from Bob Keye's (eBay name is "altima55") and it's gorgeous as was claimed by Bob. I will never have a problem purchasing his razors as he seems to know good ones and sells them as well. Take a gander of the very first picture I took of MY Hess.

The blade is bright so the black appearance is from direct sunlight on it. I will get a better picture later.

All I can say is "I'm in love!" If you ever decide to get rid of it, I'll take it off your hands. Thanks for the pictures!

Hello, I don't think I will be selling it any time soon, Ramon. This is for my son as an heirloom.

I understand your "desire" to have it though, believe me!

    Cheers!
