    Default My First Straight Razor

I know these pieces are nothing special, but I'm sure you're familiar with newcomer's enthusiasm. Even though all I have is this plain-jane model, I wanted to play too, so I busted out the camera and took a couple pictures. Here's what came of my efforts.

The razor is a Dovo 5/8' Half Hollow
The strop is a linen/cowhide Dovo with an 1.75 X 11.75" stropping surface, a little smallish I know, but I wanted something that'd be easy to travel with too.
The brush is a badger brush that I liked the look of, so I bought it.
I'm confident time will expand my collection to something worth ogling, but 'till then I'll just play with what I have.

    Greginator,

The Dovo 5/8 half-hollow was the first razor I bought when I re-took up straight shaving; it is still one of my favourites

    Have fun !

    Best regards

Nice pic. I just bought a Dovo 4/8 half hollow for my first straight razor. I didn't really understand the sizing method. I'm really enjoying it so far and am having fun learning about the whole experience.

You couldn't have chosen a nicer combination starter pack. Enjoy it and may there be many razors in your (near) future.

Everyone has to start someplace and you have a great start. This set will give you fine shaves. No need to go any further unless you get an AD or feel the need to impress someone. I have AD's and enjoy sharing them with my son. It leads to quality father and son time. It's hard to find something to interest teenagers and straight shaving and the AD's that go with it are working fine to gwt us to work on stuff together.

Undream, I bought all my pieces separately because they were specifically what I wanted for a first set.

Joed, thanks. I plan to expand my collection by a minimum of 1 razor, 1 strop, 1 brush and 1 hone. I actually started another thread about that. Beyond that, who knows.
