It's a J on the front of the name for sure, or a really bad stamp job... The blade lettering is nice and deep and the heft of the steel is very nice... the scales are next to shot I'm going to try and repin it but I fear they are toast...

All these blades have different levels of repair and the oldie has a polished spine and bevels, that is old enough to have some funky rust spots that will leave deep pits (on the spine) It still shaves finger hair quite well

I'm wondering if the old one could be a wade and Butch"ER". I'd have to see another one just like it to try matching the font to the letters...

Just spent the last few hours hand rubbing them with MAAS to see whats stuck to the metal... Not alot on these ones Heck I could just hone up half of them and they are done Some will require a bit of fidgeting to get up and running but it's all cosmetic.

I'm going to see what can be salveged from the 10 or so problem children, at best they will be good newbe fodder

It certainly says Imperial razor. very common.

As for the "ER"... definitely not Wade & Butcher. They didn't partner until 1830 or so. Your razor dates much earlier, from 1790-1810.

Thought I replied to that... mmm now i have to check...

Turns out that the scales that look like stag horn are really split branches with bark. The pins are HUGE and look like pewter nails more than pins, plus the wedge is in backwards and almost as thick as the razor, all very old. I'm half tempted to clean them up and put it back together as is, just cause

Or where you talking about the Cosmo? Mmm check your PM settings, I couldn't send to you.

Here is some inspiration for your B J Eyres, Late W. Greaves Co. Sheffield

With the right choice of scales, you will end up with a good looking shaver.

Good luck with your restoration. Please post some pics when you are done.

I'm looking to restore them using the same era scales If I screw up the ones they came with. I'm also allergic to "Shiny" restorations

Your "Late" Greaves does look good, just not what I would do

As I clean them up and hone them I am posting them. I'm a bit fuzzy and ended up posting the last two in the "Razor" room

Case Brothers Tested XX or the Gates & Hillier (sounds funny).. shave today was ok, I need to work on it a bit more. Being a short 5/8 quarter hollow with a good sized spine makes that edge prety beefy. I'm not as used to the short thick buggers as I am the wider thick ones (ok that really sounds bad...) I like the heft of this razor so I'm going to work on it more next week. Next I need to clean up some others to get them ready to shave with and see what gets moved off my rotation stand...
