Thanked: 45Leap of Faith - Tortoise Scale Blanks
Came across a nice Wostenholm needing some work and was thinking about my first set of tortoise scales.
Max sent me a pic of these blanks - pre-polishing. How would they look polished, though? Should I just go conservative with black linen micarta?
I decided to take the leap and went for the tortoise. The leap was worth it. Take a look.
Thanks again, Max.

I don't think you could have made a bad choice there because no doubt the BLADE is the STAR!

Nice scales. You made a wise choice.
I have an Otto Busch Weltmeister with faux Tortoise scales like those from Max. They are simply beautiful."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Thanked: 45It is a great blade. Tried it out for the first time today. Top notch.
Some day i will learn how to hone wedges, but I've yet to find one I feel would be a good one for experimentation / practice. The ones I've come across so far have been either totally worn down or nice ones that I don't want to screw up. This was one of the nice ones, obviously.

So, I half hate to resurrect such an old thread, but I just picked up a J. Wostenholm & Sons with broken tortoise shell scales and would hate to replace them with anything less attractive. Searching for tortoise scales on google pulled up this thread. I'd love to know where I could get a hold of material like, or similar to what was used here! Absolutely gorgeous.

Great looking razor! The scales really pop.
By the look of the scale blanks, I'm going to guess either Max is making it or it custom from someone.
