Default Just in from the Orient

Another Hayashi Diamond, straight from Japan to add to my collection, and this one a not commonly seen #74.
She measures up at a hair over 13/16, NOS and never seen a hone!

Can't wait to give her the shave test...

I found a rather nice straight recently, from Solingen but made in Japan . Not as nice as yours, but I like it and will have her fixed up by Neil Miller.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe there were any Solingen razors made in Japan unless they were counterfeits. I believe that for a razor to be marked Solingen it had to be produced in the Solingen district. Perhaps yours is a razor made in Solingen for distribution in Japan

    Regards - Walt

Hi Walt! I won´t correct you, I think you´re right, but this is a picture of the back side of the razor above... Maybe it´s a freak razor, but why make a counterfit with this marking? Cheers Mikael (and I´m sorry for the thread jack B&T, your blade is a such a nice one)

Now THAT'S interesting. You know, it is very likely a Japanese razor made for the Japanese market that somehow made it to Europe. Solingen is sort of this Holy Land of steel in Japan, and so any connection to it is seen as a good thing. They probably just stamped it on the blade to help it sell.

Seriously, I've seen stuff stamped on Japanese razors that was simply wrong. For example, I have a razor stamped "Full Hollow Ground" and is a II on the Henckels scale--really near a full wedge. Why would they stamp it like that? Because they saw it on a European razor, and English looks cool to Japanese customers.

Yes, it´s funny and strange. Prob. Swedish steel in it, lol (qwe used to export a lot of our steel to Japan). Thank you for the answear. I guess it´s kind of same same in Thailand, once I saw a bottle of mineral water namned "Polling Water" , so funny I brought it back with me.
