Thanked: 6All tell - no show
Sorry I don't have any pictures, but I just wanted to share about my recent razor acquisition...
This weekend while visiting my parents, I told them about my new experiences with wetshaving. My mom had my grandfather's old de safety razor and his brush that she graciously gave to me. It's in need of some serious cleaning, but I'm VERY excited to clean it and use it. I didn't even know she had it. It is a Gillette Super Speed. My mom said she thought my grandfather bought it in the 1940's.
And second, my father told me that he has a straight razor that has been owned by my great-great grandfather, great grandfather, grandfather, and hisself. My father has never used it, but all of the others have. My dad was told it was made in the 1880's. It was given to my great-great grandfather by his employer, because he couldn't afford one of his own and he needed to shave for work to be presentable. The razor has the name of the employer inscribed on the blade. The employer was one of the founding fathers of my hometown. My dad didn't want to turn loose of this razor just yet though...
If I am able to post pictures later, I will.

Super Speeds were made beginning in 47 and that model continued until the flare tip SS in 54 IIRC. Nice shaving razor. Ask your dad what maker's name is stamped on the tang of the straight razor. Just curious. Cool to have a family heirloom to shave with. Most of us aren't that lucky as people just tossed old razors in many cases. I can't recall how many gillettes and schick safety razor I tossed in the 1960s.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
