    Default E.M Dickinson Invicta Cut Throat

    I bought this at a garage sale and just wondering if anyone has an idea on how much it's worth and what age it is.

    Sorry, we don't do evaluations here. As to age, it's a post 1890 blade due to it's being marked 'England', a treaty came in 1892 or 3 insisting on country of origin to be marked. There's lots of hone wear on it so it'll probably never be the prettiest of pieces but may clean up to be a decent shaver. If you're thinking of using a straight it may be worth investing in another blade in better condition. Some good advice here in the wiki. Good luck.

    According to Goins' Encyclopedia, E.M. Dickinson was at the Murray Works, 11 Cambridge St, Sheffield from 1870 until 1953, where he made all types of cutlery. By 1953 he was Milton Street in Sheffield. The Invicta mark was in use by 1893. This doesn't pinpoint the date your razor was made, but that's true of most razors. There just isn't enough known information about the various manufactures to be precise.

    Just a quick update to this info. Em Dickinson were not in Milton Street in 1953. They ceased trading in 1937 and sold their trade marks (Invicta and El Dorado) to Needham, Yeall & Tyzack at the Eye Witness Works in Milton Street."
    Dickinsons traded from the Murray Works on Cambridge Street c 1880.
    The Murray Works changed its location several times: in 1888 it was in Division Street;
    in 1896 Rockingham Street; and in 1910 Arundel Street.
    The razor in question must date from between 1893 and 1937

    The pattern to the left of the makers name sugests this to be post WW1 as the earlier ones didnt have this pattern, but not as late as 1925. After 1925 they usually have "celebrated hollow ground razor. Set ready for use" on the blade.

    So my guess would be between 1918 and 1925.

    Hope this is of use to someone

    I want this person on my team if I ever need to go to court or if I ever get picked for Jeopardy or Family Feud. Great info!
