    Default Whaddaya think?

So, after getting my Wostenholm chopper back from CannonFodder, I discovered a deep, deep love for Sheffield steel (the Wosty was my first Sheffield in shaving condition) and a love for the big blades... Which led me to promptly bid on this guy:

    GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SONS I-X-L 7/8" STRAIGHT RAZOR - eBay (item 350364755562 end time Jun-12-10 09:23:14 PDT)

And I won. Whaddaya think? A good razor? Looks sweet to my eye, and at a good price too

Should be an interesting project razor. I'm sure she'll be fun.

Hopefully there won't be too much project in it... Looks to be in good condition.. A light buffing, maybe some Maas should do it.. Hopefully the scales are in "keeper" condition.

Looks to me like there is pitting under all that staining, and that looks like the staining that won't come out without a trip to the greaseless, but you never can tell. It also makes me nervous that the staining and pitting runs to the edge. The state of the front, the pitting on the tang, and the lack of a photo of the back makes me wonder too...

But who knows, you'll find out when you start working, right?

The lack of a back photo is worrying, but I don't think the staining looks that dire... However, I'm just judging by past eBay purchases that looked worse and turned out fine... I'm thinking it looks like it'll be fairly clean, but won't know till it gets in...

    Fingers crossed, though...
