2 New to me DE's
I just picket these up to expand my collection of shaving implements and can't wait to try them out.
I got the Gillette Adjustable off eBay for $37 after shipping it's "for my wife to use"
I couldn't pass on the antique store find of the Wade and Butcher DE for $13.77 after tax. I didn't know they made DE's but I like my W&B Straight so figured I RAD to have it.
I was considering getting forgiveness after the purchase. But went the uncertain rout of actually calling my wife and getting permission first since I had already pulled the, "This is my fathers day gift from you honey" thing with my purchase of three Straight razors about two months ago. That didn't go over so well so I figured I better not push my luck with even a small purchase like this or next time I'd never get away with it.Last edited by gandrw; 06-19-2010 at 03:43 AM.

Wow what a difference a sharp blade makes!
I shaved with the Gillette Adjustable today and loved it. It was my very first DE shave. I'm still working on my honing skills so my Straights are not what you would consider "Shave Ready" but even then I get more comfortable shaves than with cartridge razors. This was totally different though. The blade just glided along with no effort or tugging, I can't wait to get my Straights that sharp.
I got a assortment pack and tried the Wilkinson Sward blade first because my last name is Wilkins. I figured hew knows maybe someone along the line dropped the son and I'm a distant relatives or something. Corny I know but thats the way my gears turn sometimes.

Cool stuff!
I just picked up a fatboy today from a garage sale! I was wondering what setting you put yours on. I havn't shaved with mine yet, I've just cleaned it up, I'm about to post it on this forum.

You can post it in this thread if you want. I used it on 1 for the first several spots then played around with different settings to see what I liked. I ended up using all 9 settings some worked better for different areas. My wife got the back of my neck for me and she kept it on 4 i think.
I would recommend starting off in 1 it's the least aggressive and working your way up as you get comfortable. At least that's what I did because this was my first time using any DE. If you have used one before you might be able to find out what the equivalent setting to that would be and start there.

Here are a couple of pics of my Fatboy, as well as a three piece. I picked them up both yesterday.
The fatboy is in near mint cond. no deep scratches. There's just a bit of discoloration, I'm going ask my dad (he's a jeweler) if he can have it cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, it'll probably polish it up and clean of anything in the small holes that are hard to reach. I'm just a little worried it'll take off the paint in the numbers

Those look nice I like the vintage camera to. If your dad is a jeweler you should ask if it's posable for him to replate it. I found a site that dose that but it cost something like $65 All you would have to do is find some directions for disassembling it . That is if it doesn't clean up as good as you like. But it looks pretty good and definitely very usable. I'd love to eventually get mine replated in Black titanium.
