    Default Gentlemans Best Visit

This morning I drove approximately 90 miles to visit The Gentleman's Best Store. It is located in Southington Ct, which turned out to be a very nice New England type village.
Anyway I met with Ray for about 90 minutes. The main reason for my visit was to have three razors looked and any work required done to them. Ray looked at all three under a really nice microscope and decided they only needed minor work. He showed me one under magnification that seemed to have part of the edge fall away. I was really shocked at how a razor looks under magnification ( if memory serves it was 500X) and was able to see the edge which looked like a saw blade. He thought it best for me to leave the razors for service and told me he would ship them back when completed.

Ray was great to talk to. He answered all my questions, which were numerous. He took the time to show me how things were done with honing stones of all types, how to properly place Chromium Oxide on leather etc....
The store had a wonderful collection of antique shaving equipment which was nice to see. He had a wonderful collection of custom razors for eye candy and showed me several types of raw materials for custom scales that he was creating.

Of course all the conversation was over a freshly brewed cup of coffee provided by Ray.

I cannot speak highly enough of Ray's hospitatlity and the store. I will be making periodic trips there just for the chat about razors and the coffee.

While I was there I did pick up a few items I've wanted to get my hands on.

If you live any where near this place, I highly recommend a visit. You will not be sorry.
