    Default KrackedKutter

This is another razor in my possession that I've been waiting to get to for a wile. Sadly there's a small crack on the blade, but I'm gonna try honing her up anyway.

I wouldn't hone a blade with a crack. It can be very dangerous to shave with since the blade can flex and you can risk cutting yourself. Not worth it in my opinion. That's also a fairly large crack that appears to be almost half the width of the blade.

Don't shave with damaged blades....practicing your honing probably won't hurt though.

That looks like it was done with a spike point, not a crack.

SOME cracked blades can be used. If no scratches appear on the strop, then you MIGHT be able to shave with it at your own risk.

If you shave with a cracked blade you are asking for trouble.

It was a bent spike point that got me. Point, though, was that life if too short to shave with damaged blades...not to mention that it hurts.

Not a good idea David. Save the scales but pitch the blade

The point is that basic care and judgment need to be exercised. A bent spike point that did that damage would have scratched the strop and therefore would have clearly indicated itself to need repair. Further, that point easily could have been repaired in less than 30 seconds.

Similarly, that same basic care and judgment can be exercised in determining whether or not a cracked blade can still be usable. A basic evaluation can determine that and lack of scratching on a strop is a good indicator. I have three cracked blades in my regular rotation. I have used them for years and have never been cut by them.
