I am going back to that shop tomorrow
So went on a drive today I like driving around looking for antique shops. About an hour from my home I spot an old antique store that looks more like an old barn than a store. I wasn't sure if it was open or not but decided to check it out. I only wish I had brought more money. I asked the white haired lady behind the counter if she had any old straight razors or sharpening stones, strops or anything that might be used with a straight razor. She pointed to the back of the store and said yes. I walked to the back of the store and lo and behold razors upon razors and boxes of stones, strops, mugs, and brushes. I looked through the razors and there were these five each wrapped in some kind of wax paper opened the first one and saw the oil on the blade and my eyes almost fell out of my head. Kept looking around saw pumas, bokers, W&B's, Torrys, Joseph Allen, and a whole bunch of razors I haven't heard of. I went back to the front of the store and asked how much for one of the DD's she told me how much she wanted for each of any of the razors as they were all the same price. I haggled for a min as not to appear to willing to give in to her. I went back to the back got these five and paid for them and asked if she was open Sat, and she said as long as I'm alive I'm open six days a week. I didn't get a chance to look at everything she had but will be headed back. I asked her where she got all the stuff and she said from an estate sale of a former barber. It looked as if all the razors are stored that way covered in a light oil and in some kind of wax paper. There are a couple small spots where rust was on the tang but shouldn't be to much of a problem. I cleaned these up with some scrubbing bubbles and then mass.

For once I'm just speechless .....
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 240I'm tempted to tell myself that you are lying if only to stop me from buying a plane ticket and flying down tomorrow and seeing what treasures you left behind. Seriously great score sounds like you hit the jackpot now I know why I haven't been able to find any straights at antique shops, they have all been at your lucky find. In the words of lord of the rings (sorry it's on at the moment) "keep it safe, keep it secret).

Great score! I'm glad they ended up in the hands of someone that will care for them as well as the original owner. Gotta love old barbers.

One more thing yeah I may be lucky, but I travel a lot and stop at almost every antique shop or flea market I see. In the last two months I have most likely traveled close to a 1000 miles looking for straights. Most times its a bust but every now and then I find some good stuff.
