Thanked: 85Latest Flea Market finds, a Ladies’ DE and a Rolls
Greetings everyone,
Here are a couple of razors I picked up at my local flea market on 09/19/10.
The first is what I believe to be a Gillette ladies’ double edge safety razor. If I’m reading the markings correctly, it was made in the 4th quarter of 1974. It’s in pretty good shape, except for some plating that’s missing on one of the doors (or whatever they are called). I paid $1 for it.
PS: According to the the Shave Wiki at the B&B forum, this is actually called a Lady Gillette.
-----------------------------------------
The second razor is a Rolls Razor. I bought it because it came in a nice leather case (I’m assuming it’s cow leather, not real reptile) and I only had to pay $4 for it. This was the first one I’d seen with any type of case. The case even has a pouch to hold a spare blade container. There wasn’t a spare blade with the razor.

Thanked: 85Unfortunately, the hone is for the Rolls is broken, and the strop doesn’t look all that great. I see Rolls Razors at the flea market fairly often, so I’m hoping to be able to locate some serviceable spare parts. I intend to shave with this razor at some point.
The blade is marked with a number 53 and a 7 on the spine. Does anyone know if that can identify when the razor was made?

Very very very good scores Chris ...$1????? wowwww, how can you go wrong?
That ladies Gillette is great...I will be looking one for my wife at some point in the near future. She is slowly breaking into the art of wetshaving (for her legs of course)
That Rolls is also a beautiful score...too bad the hone is broken...I wonder if that thing can be fixed.

The case you found with that Rolls is possibly worth more than the razor itself.
amazing find.

Thanked: 85I shaved with the Gillette tonight (just my face...) and it worked great. I like the long handle. It's very similar to my Merkur 23c (and less expensive too).
