    Default My razors, previous restorations

Being a new user I thought I'd post a couple pics of my razors. Some have been restored, some have just had a touch-up - all have been honed and are in use for shaving

Back row left: Dixie Blue Steel by Dixie MFG Co., rust removed, sanded and buffed. Kept original scales, they were stable and undamaged.
Back row middle: Otto Busch Weltmeister, new bubinga scales, white plastic wedge, brass pin and washer. Removed some black marks, added scales.
Back row right: Wade & Butcher (sorry don't know model), new scales in wenge, wedge in zebrawood, brass pins and washers. sanded and polished blade.
Foreground: Erik Anton Berg, eskilstuna. Unpinned to remove some rust in pin area. Original scales, in horn I believe. Decided to reuse since they were stable and uncracked, but unfortunately made a small crack myself in them while pinning

Back row left: Unknown brand (deccipherable is William revi.. Patent temper..) Removed some rust, sanded and polished, new scales in bubinga. Plasic wedge, pins and washers in brass.
Back row middle: w.gregory & son, sheffield, sanded and polished, new scales in zebrawood. Wedge in ebony, brass pins and washers.
Back row right: Wade & Butcher, polished. Scales in rosewood w ebony wedge, brass pins and washers.
Foreground: Unknown brand (marked Quick Cutter, no other stamps) Removed rust and some pitting, polished. Scales just cleaned and polished.

I did not think this post belonged in the restoration thread since I just made a shortcut version with no thorough explanations and no before pictures. Please move if this is the wrong forum.

Oh, and please forgive the poor pictures.

    Nice work. Nice razors.
I'm sure you mean bone not horn for the Berg .I often say one when i mean the other

Very nice collection. They all look like sweet shavers. Which is your favorite?

    Thank you Nicknbleed,

very hard to pick one favourite as they are still quite new to me and I am still exploring and learning which razor suites me the best. So far I think I have concluded that I like round nosed or barber's notched razors, and I also think I prefer wedges over hollow ground razors. The ones I have enjoyed the most has been the Dixie Blue Steel, both Wade & Butchers and the Weltmeister, but the William in the last picture is growing on me in a big way. I have only used it once so far tho, it just got finished and honed.

Onimaru - I really am not sure what the material is, it could very well be bone. I do not know enough about these materials to accurately tell them apart. I can tell it is not celluloid or some other artificial material, but I still got lots to learn, and I thought horn was more common than bone.

Very nice razors and well done!! I like them all, the E A Berg looks nice too, I´ve got one that looks close to yours and it´s a very, very good shaver. It can be ivory scales, but it´s hard to tell without a close up. Even though they do look a bit chunky and possible, like you said, are made of horn.

    Hello Mikael

Judging by your picture, I do believe we have exactly the same razor. I agree they are nice shavers, but I find it a bit unforgiving and mine gave me my deepest cut yet, but that may be down to me being a newbie shaver. The spike also has a tendency to dig in to the softer parts of my facial anatomy, but I did intentionally leave it sharp and pointy
My scales are a bit discolored on the one side, like I've heard horn or bone may get, and mine are also a bit porous, so much so that I can (barely) see the pores with my bare eyes - so I do not believe mine are ivory. But then again, I am not very familiar with these materials.

Str8fencer: I think you´re right about the scales and spikes can be ... well very unforgiving .

souschefdude: A metal geggo I got when I visited Barcelona once.
