Default 3 gifts from my barber of 20 years.............

When I got interested in str8s I asked my barber (not in Knoxville, but a small town north of here) if he had any straight razxors when he bought the barber shop from the previous barber. He said yeah somewhere in the basement. They'd been stored for the 40 years he had been barbering there and is now in his 70's. He never used them, but the previous barber used them well. Said he wasn't sure he wanted to get rid of them and I told him I'd love to buy a couple just to be able to have a piece of history from the town and he said he'd try to find them. well he came across about 12 well used razors in a zip lock bag and when I saw him again, he smiled and said have a look. They were nothing fancy by some peoples standards, but I thought they were all neat. After picking out 3 I thought would be good shavers to get restored and asked how much would he like for these if he would let them go. He said Dave we're buddies, you can have them all. I told him to hold onto the others for now but selected these 3 to get ready to put in my rotation when I can afford to send them off to 1 of our member restorers.

1st one is a round tip Boker. Hard to make it out in the lousy pics but on the blade is "Our Own" and under that "Hollow Ground Razor"

Next is a J A Henkels with Box in great shape except for a tear from some tape someone had on it.

The 3rd one is a W H Morley and Sons with a nude dude on the scales (not sure how I feel about that yet) On the blade reads "Mercur" and under that "Extra Hollow Ground" Appears to have a little bit of a frown on the blade so I don't know how that will work out. We'll see.......

Thanks for looking and for any info anyone has on any of these as far as age or whatever. Thanks, Dave

Nice score! I don't know much about any of them but I imagine the "nude dude" on the scales is the mythical God Mercury, if that makes you feel any better about him!

I love seeing razors with history. I have a few of the "Our Own" Bokers. Just like all Bokers, they are excellent razors. Same thing with the Henckels, and it's in better condition. The Morley is salvageable and still has a lot of life left in it--especially if you don't breadknife it. Regarding the dude, if you're uncomfortable with your sexuality , you can always go the transgender route. A few moments with a Dremel and...

Too funny about the dremel. As afr as breadknifing it, I assume your talking abot a botch honing which I don't intend to do. Will send her to someone that knows what their doing til I get some skill on junk razors. thanks for the kind comments. Dave

Very nice piece of history you received. Also great that you didn't take all of your friend's razors. The Boker and Henckels will clean up find and make great shavers. The Morley may have a few more shave in it. It will need to be evaluated after you get the frown out and see how much metal is left at the heal. Guess you can take more off at the toe to get the frown out but then it's a heavy toe wear.

    Good luck.

Too bad the Morley has a frown. Otherwise it was a nice deal, I have a couple around here somewhere my barber gave to me before he retired.
