    Default My first 2 razors

Greetings, New member here and thought I would share my first acquisitions. I have a Suplee & Biddle from Whipped Dog as my first Shave ready starter with the yellow handle. I've got a good idea of what hone wear looks like now! No complaints though, my technique is improving and it has no problems mowing down whiskers. The second razor is my first ebay attempt. It's a Shaveesi 5/8 by Southern and Richardson of Sheffield It's not shave ready as best I can tell and looks to have been repinned at some point. Looks like they pinned it a little tight as there are some scratches around the pivot point from opening and closing the razor. Maybe taken apart to clean the blade up? I think the important parts of the razor look to be in good order though, little hone wear, flat edge and not bent.

Here is a little pretend SotD picture. I love looking at those threads so I hope to participate. Just need to work on my photography a little lol! *EDIT* Can't get the darned thing to rotate the right way!

I just had a shave ready Bradrei arrive in today's post and another EBAY buy, Engstrom frameback, due this week. The Bradrei is Solingen steel and marked from Nuremberg, I just hope it's not a trial to use! I intend to send my eBay purchases out for professional honing. I am trying to not succumb to RAD but there are so many pretties out there, 8 lots on my watchlist as we speak. 4 purchases in and I have representatives from America, Sheffield, Solingen and Eskiltuna, SWMBO will be shaking her head no doubt!

Sorry to say, I think you have the "addiction"
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

    Default Great start, SYD

The brush in the SOTD looks like a Semogue 830. You did yourself proud there. 'Sounds like you're having some fun (critical), and are getting a feel for different blades. I wish it could be done differently, but trying them seems the only way to find your preferences. As I recall, you're down under. There's quite a few guys here in that area. 'Sure wish you guys could convene a meet where you could help each other w/ honing technique & maybe get to try each other's stuff. 'Beats buying one of everything & having to sell what you learn you don't like.

'Hope you keep having fun and have wonderful shaves.

Yes it is a Semogue 830. I actually haven't used it yet. It was brand new in this photo.

I have since given it a good wash and built a lather with it a couple of times. It is a bit of a lather hog from what I can see but reading the boards and using my other bristle brush has shown me that this will improve as the brush breaks in.

An SRP meet up would be cool but I haven't spotted any other West Aussies yet!

Bugger! Took some photo's of the new razors and the thumb drive with the pictures carked it. Back to the drawing board on that one.

The Engstrom turned out to be pretty rough. It has been relegated to the "learn about restoring razors" pile as member #1 50:50 on my Ebaying then lol!

Two more razors underway, I'll have to see if my batting average improves. The play money is to be saved for some honing and a better strop from here. I think I have my AD's satiated for now
