Thanked: 50Awesome score for 20 bucks(F. Herder & John Barber)
SO I wanted to get an almost perfect razor cheap, so I went to the Dutch eBay surrogate and offered €12.50 for 2 razors in one sale. One razor was a F. Herder Abrahams Sohn and the other one was 'unknown'. They were heirlooms of the seller who had no use for them. The Herder looked good(almost no rust) so I offered the money and she accepted.
So they arrived a week ago and I really like the Herder. It's a number 20, hollow ground, shoulderless, 13/16, muted square point(please correct me if I'm wrong) in black celluloid scales.
There was a little rust on the spine and towards the toe, but I'm busy with handsanding it(I'll finish with a progression to 2000 grit later) and the pivot was a bit loose, but that was fixed with a little peening. After sanding I intend to get it honed, maybe at Rasurpur or Neil Miller(unless someone can recommend a Dutch honemeister)
The other razor I hadn't paid attention to as the horn scale was broken on the back scale, there is rust on the tail and the blade has a lot of patina on it. But I got wondering about it be cause the razor is quite long(shoulder to toe is 3 1/8 inch). So I looked it up, and holy cow, that's an old razor. I wouldn't have guessed from the size of the tail. It's a 13/16 to 7/8 smiling blade with a barber notch, double shoulder(again, correct me if I'm wrong) in horn scales.
I plan to get it repaired and rescaled sometime by someone who knows what he's doing(i.e. not me).
I'll add them to the SRP database later.
enough bull, pictures!

Thanked: 70Cool. Nice snag.
That John Barber does look later than 1830, especially the tail.
