My weekend Find
This is what I found at my local Antique shop this weekend. First is a 5/8th THE HAMILTON RAZOR CO. squarepoint with flourescent Pink windmill scales in Very good cond. The goldwash on the blade is a little light, but is still very visible.Second is a 5/8th F.W. ENGELS WEDGE with very nice gun blueing on the tang and monkey tail.I dont think this razor has seen much action because it showed little wear. The hone wear seen in the pics are from me,I got lazy and didnt tape the spine during the bevel set.Shave real nice,as does the pink razor. The Engels had a bloth of rust, when removed left a mark but still looks nice.To bad wedges are not my choice of razors. The third is a 13/16th CARL MONKHOUSE FULL CONCAVE with Emerald Green w/ silver inlay scales, that I got off FleaBay.This razor is on the bench. The goop you see on the scales is Crazy glue.I use it to seal any impurities and seal around the silver inlays whe necessary.I will post pics when she is complete.Im glad I stopped.I cant seem to pass a Antique store without stopping.
HAPPY SHAVING AND REMEMBER,dont just pass up the Antique Stores.

Those are very nice finds.
Its funny I never just drive pass an antique shop anymore, its worth the five minutes to jump out and see if anything good is lurking in the store.

Update on the Carl Monkhouse.Scales were to hazy to polish,so I gave it a Cracked Ice finish, and I really like it.I thought I was going to have to replace the scales. Now for a good honing.

Very nice scores
. I am impressed. And you are absolutely right; antique stores can sometimes hide gems that would otherwise be overlooked. I just have to find the time to get to one

Thanked: 101I have 3 shops in town I check at least a couple of times a month. They know I look for razors & keep an eye out for them for me. Also there is a monthly indoor flea market that I have had good luck finding razors, hones & strops at.
We will be doing some traveling this summer for my granddaughter's softball team so in the off time I will be on the hunt! That is the fun for me! I will have to try some of that "Cracked Ice" paint!
