Pair of Aubril
I picked these up last week. A pair of French, Aubril straights in a nice box. Very nice spine work and elephant ivory scales. It's a pity but the scales have a split around the bottom pin on each straight. They seem very stable but I might look at getting them rescaled at some stage as I'd like to take out the blades to clean them up. The grind is a very heavy wedge. It's amazing what's still out there just waiting to be discovered.

The man has no mercy!
John, you serve up some of the best pics of great hardware on an obscenely regular basis. Heck, your throw-aways are probably better than most member's best.
Thx for treating us to the pics. They're beautiful.

I usually like rescaling and whatnot, but with a set like that, I wouldn't even think about rescaling them. I've seen people take razors apart to clean them up despite delicate ivory scales, but it is a risk. I've also seen blades that were polished with the pins intact (you could polish everything but a little of the pivot area that way.

Nice score John, but I agree with above. I would absolutely not rescale those at all.
I've taken a razor intact in the scales to 400 and 600 greaseless and up to all the rogue buffers and got everything nice and mirror without taking the razor out of the scales. There may be some grime around the pivot pin, but with delicate scales and those as nice as yours that wouldn't bother me at all.
