Default Henckels 8/8 with ornate spinework.

First is an 8/8 Henckel. I discovered 2 things about this razor when I got it. The first is that it looks like it's lost a little of it's length at some stage. Not much but there's a gap at the end of the scales that looks to big to be normal. The second is that it has unbelieveable spine work. It's a rope design and it's fantastic.

That's a very nice looking Henckels. Congrats! You're probably right. It appears that the blae was shortened. Maybe the toe was chipped or cracked at some point by a previous user. Rather than tossing it, a razor restorer ground it down so that it would be serviceable.

I own a a Mon Bijou that has similar ornate spinework w/ goldwash--a real beauty.

I think you will agree that Henckels are fantastic shavers.

'Breathtaking, John. Your posts are just amazing. 'Makes me wonder if the knowledge you've acquired might be well served by some time at the Soligen museum. You certainly have seen, handled, owned some of the best blades I've ever seen or even heard of. Thank You for sharing.

That is indeed an amazing one...

Can you get a couple pictures of the close-up of the beginning and end of the "rope work?" The rope seems to go all the way to the end of the blade?

    John that looks great!

I have a 7/8 Friodur with the exact same spine work and man does it take a great edge.
