Default 6/8 Wilbert Cutlery CO Chicago

    Hi,

Mail came today and I found my reent razor purchase in with the bills. 6/8 full hallow Wilbert Cutlery CO Chicago with copper pins and wood scales. I've read Wilbert Cutlery CO was a trademark used by Sears, Roebuck & Co. Chicago, Illinois from 1908 - 1921. It would nice to pair this with a craftsman strop. Sort of a theme set.

That looks like a very nice find . Congrats. I don't know much about restorations etc, but I reckon that this will clean up pretty nice.

    Hi,

Thanks, It some tarnish on it but I think it will clean well with a maas. I'm kind of surprised the scales are in such great shape. They are just natural wood no finish on them

    Hey Mike,
If it's just tarnish, you're lucky and hit the great mother lode of finds .
If wood doesn't have coating on it, would it swell from humidity etc...at least, that's what I have heard about wood.

    Enjoy it.

    Robert,
That depends a great deal on the type of wood. There are hardwoods that resist moisture. Some woods are so dense, they don't float.

    Hi,

These scales are what I'd call normal wood not hard but not soft. If the blade was not in there they'd float.
