Thanked: 0Start of my collection
So this is the start of my collection:
Wilkinson Sword Pall Mall
Fox Cutlery S2 w/ chip at heel
Dovo #107 Brucke Birdseye Maple
Dubl Duck Special No.1
I'm not sure whether I'm going to keep the Dubl Duck, I'm having a hard time putting an edge on the about half the blade with my hone.

Thanked: 3795Two things.
First, if you have to have a chip in a razor, then the location of the chip and the fact that the blade is shoulder-less makes that about as ideal of a chip as you could ask for.
Second, you mentioned that you could only get half the Dubl Duck sharp with your hone. What hone do you have?

Thanked: 0The chip in the Fox Cutlery isn't bad, and it is in the 'right' spot if you were ever to get a chip, but the side of the blade with the etching is concave and pretty uniform down the length of the blade from what I can tell. It's more of a display piece, my wife would kill me if I sold it or used the scales for another blade as it was her great grandfathers.
I'm using a Spyderco Ultrafine, it worked well for the Wilkinson, Dovo, Fox Cutlery (even though the blad is concave) and for an unpictured Roll Razor. I think I'm just being impatient and need to take my time more. I still think I'm going to get rid of it as I would prefer a large blade like a 6/8 to 8/8 range.

Thanked: 3795I looked at the "chip" again and realized what I thought was the chip was in fact due to the shadow behind/under the blade. I guess I don't actually see any chip at the heel. It must be pretty small.
The Spyderco UF is a pretty fine hone and you will be very hard-pressed to hone a razor with nothing but that one. You need something more coarse to set the bevel and sharpen the edge.

Thanked: 0Well I guess I should have said I have a Spyderco Medium and Fine as well. I use them to set the bevel and start the edge. I started honing & shaving with the Wilkinson and it had a couple of flat spots when I got it. The PO must of used a file to sharpen it as there were deep hone marks in the spine and edge. The Medium and Fine did a good job of cleaning those up and after the Fine the blade passed the hanging hair test (I know I know it's not the best indicator) then I did the Ultrafine and I could split hairs (if I went in the right direction). I think I'm just being impatient with the Dubl Duck, I just need to spend some more time on it.
The forum photo gallery limits the size of the photos making it hard to get the chip in correctly so I put it on another photo hosting site. I filed down the chip using the corner of the Sypderco Medium that's why it doesn't look like a chip anymore:
