Default Fist new razor, a Dovo 6/8

Got the package in the mail today from Straight Razor Design in Ohio. Nice 6/8 brand spankin new Dovo razor. I have it with my shaving mug and brush that I inherited. I remember seeing the mug and brush used back in 1958.

Also arrived is a nice 4/8 J.A. Hinckel razor from an eBay auction. I was the only bidder and got it for under 30.00.

I stropped both of them up and gave them a test try this evening (Sat). I was surprised at the Henckels in it's shave. Seemed fairly nice considering it was a used vintage razor from ebay memeber that does not hone or shave with them. I stopped the Dovo about 50 times and I think it could use a bit of honing. Factory is alright but it's just a freckel less of a shaver than that Henckels.

They look great, but I'm pretty all the razors sold from SRD are shave ready. Someone please let me know if I'm wrong.

They are touted as that. However, the razors are shipped from Medina OH to Lynn in Missouri. He hones them there and test shaves them.

This one was ordered on Wed. the 16th, about noonish, or right after, using their phone number. It went out - shipped - the next morning from Ohio directly to me on Thursday the 17th and I got it on Rural Route deliver via mail on Saturday the 19th. The box holding the razor still had the DOVO factory seal on it unbroken, and the packaging inside looked tight and undisturbed. Razor coated with oil, which is good.

I, too, was thinking (and hoping) that it was "shave ready" when I got it so I would have a sort of "benchmark" razor to go against as an example. It was not the case. I was wanting 5/8 but they were out of a black handle, so I took a 6/8 in black that was in stock.
