"The Champion Razor Hone -Directions Inside"
Made a quick stop at the antique shop, and found this. From what I've read they aren't the best honest but nonetheless I think its cool and for $4 It had me at hello.
Any information regarding these/thoughts/comments etc? Thanks everyone, happy finds, and happy shaves!

Thanked: 3795Ha!
I remember reading posts by at least two people who declared these to be just fine. I keep mine for only one reason. That is, as an example of the WORST barber hone I have ever encountered. MY Champion hone caused severe chipping and the reason was evident under the microscope. Its grit was heterogeneous, which is not uncommon, and some of the grit was significantly larger than the rest. I've played with it a few times with different razors, but I have never been able to hone a razor with it without harming the edge.
It is entirely possible that I got a dud. In fact, I consider it to be likely, as I highly doubt that anyone would bother continuing to make such an awful razor without risking having enraged razor owners seeking retribution. Seriously, my hone is THAT bad!
I hope that yours works very well for you!

Haha yea not much intention to use it, I saw your other post about these a while back so I knew what it was when I bought the brand. I don't want to start honing on this as a bad job would just lead blame to the hone.
By the way....Did you follow the directions on the inside of the box?
Ha only kidding..

Thanked: 3795No, please do use yours. It was not my intention to scare you off. I'm really curious to increase the sample size of this hone.

Please use it so we may determine wether or not Ron had an oddity or if all Champion hones are crap! Please, in the name of science, mom and apple pie!

Thanked: 3795I should point out that, just as I recall a couple of people liked theirs, there has been at least one other person that had the same experience as mine. In other words, you can be the tie-breaker!

Talk about no pressure on a new guy...Let me develop the skills needed first, and a review will follow.
EDIT: Question, was yours exactly like this, box and all? Any idea how old this is maybe? Much appreciated thanks for all the replies.

Thanked: 3795Mine did not have a box, but your box informed me of something I did not know. The Champion hone was made by the same company as the Winner and Regal hones. I say this because the boxes are almost identical. I don't know its age, but if I had to guess, I would say 50 to 75 years old.

So what Grit would this be then? Like I said I'm very new to honing and str8's. Are both sides of this hone the same grit then I would assume? and being that it is so old, how should I prepare the stone, sanding?

Thanked: 65I don't know how good they are but I sold one a few weeks ago and got $15.50 for it and the box was not near as nice as yours.
