Thanked: 1371Today's Project, aka: A Better Use For Firewood
A couple of years ago, I helped my brother clear some trees from his backyard after a bad storm. I kept a bunch of apple wood in the shed for smoking meat.
Today I decided it would be a good idea to try turning a bowl on my lathe. I've never attempted a bowl before, so thought it would be a fun project. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and I learned a lot.
I left a lip on the inside of the bowl for scraping lather from the brush.
Not pictured - I cut rings in the bottom to help grip the soap when it's getting close to being gone.
The overall height of the bowl is bigger than it needs to be. Having never done this before, I was worried about blowing the bottom out, so left myself a lot of material. The finished thickness of the base is about 0.800
Anyhow - here's the finished project, with my last puck of Bairlea Farms soap pressed in:
