    Default Heirlooms!

So my grandfather passed two razors along to me this past week. I'm super excited about his Cases Ace. He told me he has always wanted to shave with a straight but it just wasn't for him. He bought this razor a long time ago (he couldn't remember when) and never used it, so it's been sitting in his basement unused since then.

He also gave me an old Morley and Sons razor which was the one he had tried to use (I assume it wasn't as rusty at the time). The rust is still active so hopefully I can sand it off pretty easily and find no pitting.

Will the patina on the edge of the Cases Ace affect anything if I want to get it honed up?

The last razor is just an ebay special. It's not the best but hopefully I can get it going in the near future.

Does anyone have info on any of these? I've seen the Genco Easy Aces but no Cases Ace.

Please don't take sandpaper to any of those razors! Those girls are quite nice and could be damaged very easyly with sand paper. Go slow by starting with some metal polish and a q- tip. Pitting is almost certain but with out the orange and black from the rust might not be to bad. Stay off the bluing on the Case with the polish, as it will probably remove it. The W&B Special is no junker. Treat it well, it's a keeper. You can never put the original finish back once it is gone. Take your time, do several light cleanings over time. Mass or Mothers Mag polish are commonly available and work great. You are the caretaker until you pass them on to your grandchildren. Enjoy them.

Yeah thank you for the advice! I had only planned to sand the Morley but I will refrain.

I'll get to work with some Mothers polish I have and post some finished results once I get them honed and usable.

BTW, I love the bluing on the Case. I have a Droescher where the tang is almost 'blacked' but this one has some blue and purple mixed together. Love it

Just an ebay special? Looks like a fine Wade & Butcher Special to me! Nice find, good job!

I sold a Case's Ace (as well as two Genco Easy Aces recently... I acquired them all at a knife show). Here is a pic of my former Case's Ace...

Did you have the chance to shave with any of them before you sold them? What is your opinion?

Awesome looking razor by the way, I like the writing on the scales, it looks more classy than mine

I shaved with the Case's Ace off the factory edge... It was nice. They were all New Old Stock... Dealer had 40 of them. I'm primarily a pre 1880's Sheffield Guy.

That's great. I wish I had something that had some family value. My grandfathers used a small barber shop a few blocks a way. I actually remember getting my hair cut by him when I was small. I remember him being shaky when I was a kid. Couldn't imagine let him come near my throat with a straight. I do remember a container full of barbacide with many straights in it. He passed away a long time before I was into SR shaving.
