Got a new-(for me)-used Torrey!
Big spender! I dropped $22.38 (shipping included) on a Torrey that looked unusual. It's unlike the others I'd seen, anyways. I'm guessing someone took artistic liberties with a grinding wheel. Anyhow, it's got some faults. The thing arrived rather tarnished and with stains. I purchased some MAAS from Ace Hardware (many thanks to people who posted about this polishing product and where to find it) and polished it up between writing emails and making phone calls at the office this morning. It still has some... water stains?... that I haven't worked out yet though. The spine is also a little uneven near the tang at one spot... someone must've held that part on the grinder for half a minute too long (see picture # 4). And the pinning is a bit off; it's tight when opened 90 degrees and at 270 degrees in the shaving position, but it's got about 15 degrees on either side of 180 (I mean, fully extended) that is pretty loose. Then again, that might have to do with the covered tang (anyone else have that issue with a tang-covered blade?). And I'll definitely be replacing those cheap plastic scales at some point if it shaves as good as I hope for.
On the plus side, the blade is more unique than most of the razors I've looked at. And despite being tarnished and stained, I gave it about 50 passes on the canvas strop and 50 passes on the leather and it took the hair off my forearm without much trouble. Still need it honed before I drag it across the face, but it gave me a lot of confidence in this little Torrey.

Cool looking razor, congrats. I had one that looked similar a couple months ago but it wasn't a Torrey. Let us know how it shaves, I haven't had the pleasure of using a Torrey yet but I hear they're great. Enjoy the redbull also

Thanked: 84Drew,
Cool looking razor. I'm sure it will do just fine, as Torrey's do.
If it doesn't disappoint, it needs nicer scales. Good luck.

Whew! Thanks for the compliments. Since I'm so eager to test-drive it, I found a barber shop in Savannah where they still clean the neck with a straight. I'm thinking I'll hit that place first thing, and if there's a barber without any customers, see if he's got a stone that he can give it a few passes on for a fair tip. And then get a haircut... I'm overdue for one anyways.
