    Default My first DE!

As I mentioned in another thread I finally found the time to go visit my grand mother. She had saved some of the shaving equipment from my late grand father that I wanted to take a look on. Among a few not to good straights there where several Bakelite DE razors and one nicer looking DE that I decided to keep.

The razor is a Matador De Luxe in it's original box. There was also some vintage blades manufactured for a local Swedish chain of food stores called Coop. I tried it out yesterday, never having even seen a DE before and it was just great! So today I did some mild polishing to bring back the shine and now it looks the part as well.

Nice, and good on ya. I hope to rummage around my grandmother's house the next time I get a chance to visit that way and see if I can't find any of grandpa's old safety razors (I already got the straight he learned on).

    Peace,

    Great stuff.
That DE is a real looker.
Good job on shining it up.

Thanks! The pictures doesn't do it justice though, it looks even better in reality.
And I love the fact that it still got the original box with it's classic 1950 (1960?) design. But the absolute best part is that this was in fact my grand fathers and he used it for shaving and now I use it. I have a very special bond with my grand father, I even have a portrait of him tattooed on my chest.

That's very cool. Growing up, my grandfather was like God to me, a giant of a man, strong as an ox, scary as a bear, firm, but a man with a giant heart. Most, no all, of my prized possessions are in some way connected to him...including my two first straight razors!

    Happy shaving to you!

    Peace,

    Hello, PMH:

Congratulations on a good find. Yes, that razor is quite attractive. I don't know much about the history of it. Do you have something on that?

    Regards,

    Obie

I'm sorry to say that it is really hard to find any info on the Matador brand but I will share what I know.
First of all, mine is a two-piece razor, I don't know how common that is? Most I have seen is often three-piece.
Matador is/was (Now they sell some crap Mach 3 type razors under that name via telemarketing ) a manufacturer in Sweden of high quality safety razors and razor blades. They primary sold their products in the Nordic countries or more precise Sweden, Norway and Denmark. They might have been sold in Finland and Germany as well. They are from what I understand extremely rare outside Scandinavia. All DE razors from Matador are supposed to be excellent shavers.

Not much I know but that's all I got.
