Thread: SCORE!!!

OK, so I was out and about this afternoon and just couldn't resist the temptation to "run the bases" (i.e. hit my local sources for straights and such.) First base was no joy for straight razors but did yield a really cool shaving mug. Second base is typically not terribly reliable. Kind of a yuppy antique mall kinda place that wants huge sums of money for some very rung out straights. But this one particular razor I've been watching, and happen to know has been there for a while caught my eye. American steel (Lecran Cutlery, Toledo, Ohio) with tortoise shell scales. The asking price was a little steep ($30) but I decided to swing for the fence. After a brief examination I asked the clerk if he would take $15 for it to make an Old GI very happy on Memorial Day (smooth move, huh?) He said he'd have to call the owner for that big of a discount and well, long story short $15 later I left with it.

Now that's cool but cooler still, it was the easiest clean up and hone ever. Fine steel wool and never dull was good enough (I'm not a bling razor guy.) Much to my surprise it actually still had a "sharp pocket knife" edge on it. After pyramid from 20 on my trusty hardware store "hone" and 100 laps on horsehide, this razor is cocked, locked and ready to rock!

SWEET ! The American Steel quickly became my favorite Razors of my collection, to me the easiest to hone, stay sharp forever and have buttery, sharp, smooth edges !

If I may ask, what "hardware store" hone did you use?

Nicely done! Cool razor, pretty scales and hone wear looks minimal to boot. These 'unknown' US blades are are the best kept secret in shaving.
