Thanked: 85Flea Market swag
Greetings everyone,
I finally had a good day at the Flea Market last Sunday (it tends to be hit or miss). I was able to pick up some shaving items, a knife, and a bunch of leatherworking tools, all at very reasonable prices.
Here are some photos of the shaving gear and the knife.
This is the leatherworking stuff. (Sorry about the bad photo, I had the ISO screwed up).
The first razor I picked up is a Torrey round point. It has a small chip in the blade and a little surface rust. The handle is fine and the pin is nice and tight, so I’m going to try to clean it up without unpinning. I paid $4.oo for the razor.

Thanked: 85Next, I picked up this Dubl Duck shaving brush for $3.oo. It’s neat, but I haven’t decided whether or not to replace the bristles to that I can actually use it. It is a little dinged up.
Then I found the Wade & Butcher barber’s notch. The horn handled is all chomped up, but I only paid $3.oo for the razor. I’ll try to save the etching when I clean it up.

Thanked: 85Eventually, I found this Droescher razor hone for $5.oo. It came with a slurry stone and instructions. The box is still in pretty good shape too.
The leatherworking tools were probably the best deal. $10.oo for 28 craft stamps, a rawhide mallet, a swivel knife, a creaser, a few other tools, and a bunch of old snaps and clasps that are probably not useable. All in all, it was a good day.

Thanked: 85Thanks Brian. The knife says "Finland" on the blade. The wood is in good shape and I can clean up the steel. However, there's a split in the brass bolster. Since the blade appears to be peened onto the handle, I don't see any reasonable way to fix the split. Still, I only paid $8.oo for the knife.

Thanked: 114I've taken apart similar (or somewhat similar) knives in the past. You may be able to grind off the peen, take the knife apart, grind down/shorten the handle a bit, replace the bolster, reassemble, and then re-peen. The following link discusses this procedure (albeit for a cheap Mora knife with a different type bolster): Mora and Other Scandinavian Knives Have fun!
